Renowned global universities on Incheon Global Campus

Incheon Global Campus is receiving attention as an educational facility raising the next generation of global talents.
Currently in the global campus, there are many renowned universities from abroad, including SUNY Korea, the University of Utah, George Mason University, and Ghent University.
These universities are all independently extended campuses and are different from overseas branch schools.
In fact, all educational operations and regulations including admissions, graduation, and conferment of degrees are directly managed by the principal schools abroad. The degrees that the graduates receive are also identical to those of the principal schools. The university classes on Incheon Global Campus are taught entirely in English by professors dispatched from the principal schools abroad. The students study for three years on the Songdo Campus and for a year at the principal schools, so they are given an opportunity to experience life and culture abroad.
This is putting the universities on the Incheon Global Campus in the limelight.
Incheon Global Campus is currently recruiting freshmen for the autumn semester of 2014, from inside Korea and abroad.
Established in 1861, the State University of New York is the largest public educational institute of New York State. SUNY has 64 campuses and a good reputation. Among them, Stony Brook University, which opened in 1957, is known as one of the best state universities, ranked in the 1% among the world’s universities, as assessed by London Times.
Opened in 2012, SUNY Korea was the first university to settle in Incheon Global Campus. It is also the first foreign university in Korea with the courses for bachelors, masters and doctors degrees. The campus started with graduate schools for masters and doctors degrees in computer science and technology management. Then, in 2013, it opened a bachelor’s course in technology management. SUNY Korea is planning to offer additional curriculums including a bachelor’s in computer science, a graduate school for mechanical engineering, a FIT fashion school, and a college of applied mathematics.
The most distinctive curriculum at SUNY Korea is its RC Program. Also practiced at the globally-renowned Harvard University and the University of Oxford, the RC Program includes classes to nurture upright personalities and raise global talents. Going beyond simple classes of culture, the RC Program covers themes such as ethics and justice, finding one’s values and visions, the development process of Korea, case studies, and sharing and devotion.
George Mason University is famous for the ‘Mason IDEA,’ which stands for ‘Innovative,’ ‘Diverse,’ ‘Entrepreneurial,’ and ‘Accessible.’ The catchphrase enbodies the vision of George Mason University.
The bachelor’s courses offered at Incheon Global Campus are the Department of Economics inside the College of Humanities and Social Science, and Department of Business Administration inside the College of Business. Each department recruits 80 students. George Mason University’s Department of Business Administration was ranked among the world’s 100 best bachelor degrees in business administration, by U.S. News & World Report in 2012. Its part-time MBA course ranked 59th. In addition, its business administration and accounting programs were all accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
The students of George Mason University Korea study 6 at Songdo Campus for their freshmen, sophomore, and senior years. For their junior year, they go to metropolitan Washington D.C., in the U.S., and study on the Fairfax Campus, in Virginia. Through an internship program, the students can also enjoy an opportunity for international exchange. Applications for regular admissions must be made by June 30.
Ghent University is one of Belgium’s most renowned universities and it is the largest university in the Dutch-speaking region. The university has the ‘Flemish Institute for Biotechnology,’ which is one of Europe’s top biotechnology research centers. Thanks to the institute, Ghent University is ranked among the top 40 in the field of biotechnology.
Ghent University Global Campus will open on the Incheon Global Campus on this September, after the autumn semester. As a prestigious university in the bio field, it has three departments: molecular biotechnology, environmental engineering and food engineering. All three departments will recruit 75 students for each grade.
The core subjects of the three departments will be covered in common classes. Education on theories and practical skills will be given through small-group experiments and practices. The scholars from Flemish Institute for Biotechnology will participate as teaching staff.
Since junior students must study for a semester at the principal school in Belgium, they will personally experience the European education system. Opportunities for employment will also be given through specialized internships. Applications to become a freshman in the autumn semester must be turned in by July 18.
As an educational institute representing the State of Utah, University of Utah is located in Salt Lake City, U.S.A. The university was established in 1850, and has been selected as one of the world’s top 100 universities for ten consecutive years. It is also a world-class research university that was selected as the Most Outstanding Research Institute by the Carnegie Foundation.
University of Utah cherishes the ‘Entrepreneurial Spirit.’ Upon admission, students are actively encouraged to participate in the research of the faculty or conduct independent research. Since this stimulates the startup of technology-based businesses, University of Utah is an educational institute that produces the most number of startup businesses in the U.S.
University of Utah was first established with a focus on the colleges of humanities and social sciences. Then, it expanded its curriculum to include business administration, psychology, and sociology. The university is traditionally strong in humanities and social sciences. From this year’s autumn semester starting in September, University of Utah at the Incheon Global Campus will offer three bachelor’s courses including in the Department of Mass Communication, Department of Psychology, and Department of Social Welfare, and a master’s course in Public Health.
The classes on campus will include integrated courses such as Block-U and Global Citizenship, which are liberal studies conducted together with colleagues through mutual studying, educational projects & research. All students will study liberal arts and their major for three years in Incheon Global Campus, and then go to the U.S. to study their major for a year at the principal school.
