A new health facility opens for people in Songdo-dong who have had problems to visit a healthcare center due to their location. It is the Songdo Health Center Branch. The center helps the community improve health and disease prevention, and contains as well spaces with cultural elements, attracting the people in the community.
The Songdo Health Center Branch (19, Incheon Tower-daero 54beon-gil) opened in July 28. The center, located on the 1F and 2F of the Songdo Culture Complex, was opened by reflecting over the opinions and requests from the people in the community through several surveys.
The branch contains facilities related to the health like a health improvement center, rehabilitation treatment, examination room, inoculation room, maternal childhood health room, chronic disease clinic, nutrition practice room and other areas to provide relax in daily life.
The most representing area is the book cafe in the 2F. There are 2,600 newly published books in various genres and the place is decorated with a cozy and neat interior to provide space for reading, meeting and taking a break. In addition, the nutrition practice room is set for people to cook healthy food after taking nutrition classes. Massage chairs are ready in the place for the senior people. There’s also a multi-purpose room for preschool children and pregnant women. There are a lot of places to recover one’s physical and psychological health.
The projects largely consist of health improvement, rehabilitation, chronic disease management, maternal childhood health and infectious disease management. The programs for the health improvement include muscular rotating exercise, silver dance, adult yoga, fitness measurement and exercise and nutrition counseling. Each program is held in a designated time and date and telephone reservation is required for the fitness check, exercise and nutrition counseling.
The rehabilitation program includes 'rehabilitation treatment' and 'rehabilitation training program'. The rehabilitation treatment program is for the people with encephalopathy and physical disabilities requiring habilitation training to restore functions, exercise or treatment. The program uses the adjustable bed to provide rehabilitation treatment for people with the paraplegia to strengthen lower limbs. The low-speed treadmill, steps and motor-driven fitness equipment are prepared for people who need to practice walking.
In addition, the center provides a rehabilitation training program to prevent the arthritis for the community once a month in the rehabilitation treatment room. The program is particularly for the people who need the rehabilitation training after the treatment without time and space and the branch maintains organic cooperation with rehabilitation hospitals for the training.
The chronic disease management project provides 1-to-1 counseling with the doctor or the nutritionist. The subject takes basic health examination like the blood pressure, blood sugar level, cholesterol and body fat and receives complication prevention, nutritional and dietary counseling for each disease and exercise.
Also, the hypertension and diabetes courses are for the people with chronic diseases and local people older than 30 and provided from September to December. The program provides medicine treatment and complication management for the hypertension and diabetes, training classroom for each disease and a hands-on dietary course.
The maternal childhood health and infectious disease management project are for the pregnant women, infants and adults for the vaccination in Yeonsu-gu. The maternal childhood health room supports folic acid for pregnant women up to 12th week of the pregnancy and iron for those who are after the 16th week and gives presents to newborn babies.
The vaccination room is for infants and adults and the examination room performs hepatitis and biochemical tests, urine tests, liver function tests, simplified lipidemia tests and blood sugar level tests.

Yeonsu-gu Public Health Center offers free coupons for universal neonatal hearing screening
Yeonsu-gu Public Health Center is providing free coupons for universal neonatal hearing screening that can detect congenital hearing disorders.
According to the center, congenital hearing disorder has a high attack rate, and without early treatment, it can cause speech disorders and learning difficulties. Therefore, universal neonatal hearing screening of infants is essential when they are less than one month old to detect and treat hearing disorders.
Those eligible to apply for the coupons are households receiving National Basic Livelihood Security Funds and Medical Care Funds, and those with an income under 200 percent of the minimum cost of living (For example, a family of three (including an infant) paying a premium of less than 80,509 KRW for employer-provided health insurance. From the 35th week of pregnancy to a month after delivery, the applicant shall directly visit the health center and submit the application form and receipt for paying the health insurance premium to receive the coupon. Then the coupon can be used at medical agencies designated to conduct the hearing screening.
