 Offers 4th Bicycle Training Certificate

Yeonsu-gu provided trainees with certificates at the 4th bicycle training completion ceremony on Oct. 4th(Fri). In order to encourage bicycle riding among local residents, Yeonsu-gu established a target – providing 4 semesters and 80 residents of free bicycle training this year. A total of 82 residents have taken the course.

Through the bicycle training, Yeonsu-gu expects to impart new impressions about bicycle riding to residents, and create a bicycle culture that is safe and uses good road sense. Bicycle training applications for next year (first half) will be available from next March with advance registration.

Place New Address Signboards at All Apartments

Prior to the overall execution of road name address system in 2014, Yeonsu-gu placed new address signboards at apartment buildings to actively promote the ‘know your home address initiative’. According to Yeonsu-gu, previous road name stickers attached to the top of apartment mailboxes did little to inform residents of the new addresses. Other reported problems with those stickers included defacement and frequent damage to the adhesive material. Accordingly, Yeonsu-gu produced new address signboards in aluminum (with a UV coating) that took into consideration the regional features of Yeonsu-gu and the high occupancy rates of apartment building, to boost awareness of the new address system among residents. Yeonsu-gu is planning to place road name address signboards at 124 apartment exits and 2,977 elevator exits by the end of October, encouraging use of the new addresses among residents. This is the first time that signboards have been attached to every apartment in Incheon, and it is expected to set a precedent for other districts and regions. In addition, Yeonsu-gu attached road name signboards at the top of bus station stands to let passengers know the name of the road, and organized new address signboards of subway history, making multi-promotion guides using the road name address system. New address search are readily available through the address web-site (www.juso.go.kr) and ‘address search’ applications on your smartphone.

 Yeonsu-gu Conducts ‘No-Car’ Campaign

Yeonsu-gu conducted a ‘No-Car’ campaign for all local officials and residents on Sept. 30th. In celebration of global ‘Car Free Day’, ‘No-Car Day’ was part of this year’s campaign as a way to conserve energy and reduce greenhouse gases.

Accordingly, parking lot use was restricted from 7:30am to 9:00 am in public spaces including gu offices and community centers, and officials rode bicycles, took public transportation, or just walked to work. “We hope the BMW (Bus·Bicycle·Metro·Walk) culture, which promotes walking and riding bicycles over short distances and public transportation like the bus and subway over long distances becomes the norm”, says a official involved in this campaign.
