Songdo International Organization Library

At some point, people began to think more globally, about issues such as world peace and the global environment. This is because the world is becoming more and more like a neighborhood. At the Songdo International Organization Library, visitors can find domestic and overseas books on international organizations that cannot be easily obtained in other places. The library offers more specialized and segmented overseas books, attracting many people who are interested in international affairs.

World affairs and the activities of international organization in one place

There are international organizations such as the GCF and global firms located in Songdo International City, and Songdo International Library was established to provide services to Koreans and related foreigners. This library was opened on the second floor of Munhwa-dong’s Free Economic Zone Building (G-Tower) at the end of last year.

With an area of 516.35m2, it is equipped with around 5,200 domestic and overseas books, including those related to the UN and international organizations. Along with the official documents of major U.N. organizations, it also provides domestic books to help Koreans nurture their emotions, enhance their cultural understanding, and obtain knowledge.

Books on economics and society account for the largest share, with about 1,900 books. This is reported to have reflected the results of a survey conducted among foreigners who reside in Songdo International City and workers at international organizations located in the G-Tower.

The operation of a tour program to Songdo International Organization Library

Entering the library, the first thing that attracts the eye is the section of new arrivals. It is small and cozy, but filled with brand new books, including domestic and overseas novels. Eight overseas magazines and 80 domestic magazines are available in the magazine section.

There are also about 500 books including reports, periodicals, books, and pamphlets by nine international organizations such as the U.N. APCICT and the Northeast Asia office of the U.N. ESCAP. These materials are worthy of the attention of those interested in international organizations. This section is receiving particularly warm responses from university students who intend to enter international organizations.

The seats by the library’s windows are for laptop users. They are also ideal for those who want to read books in a quiet and contemplative atmosphere. There, readers can enjoy the exotic, quaint beauty of the panorama of Central Park, the waterway that crosses the park, and Tri Bowl. At each desk along the wall, a multi-tab has been installed to allow visitors to use their laptops. In addition, eight PC-based search sections are provided.

Moreover, the library is operating its own library tour program, offering the “library tour program with a mentor” for high school and university students interested in international activities or the general public. In fact, the tour participants can learn how to search the U.N. data via the ODS and gain detailed access to U.N. philosophy and activities. It provides everyone a good opportunity to more understand international organizations more extensively.
