In Yeonsu-gu, there is an attractive spot past the towering modern buildings, where you can appreciate a nice
surprise from an unobstructed view of the sea. Just a few stairs up in a park at the edge of the downtown,
you can have a even broader view of the sea from a higher altitude. On your back, there is the scenery of the
downtown, while before you is the expansive West Sea, making this special spot one of the hidden treasures in
the depth of the city.
While taking a walk along the straight walking trail, you will see a powerful stream of water which will soon become
an enormous waterfront lake. At the entrance of the park is an observatory and resting place nicely built with wooden deck, and on its right is ‘Ocean Scope,’ an artful structure made by use of containers. The three containers tilted at different angles towards the West Sea serve as an observatory for the view of the Incheon Bridge and West Sea. The other two containers at the back are positioned are facing the downtown. Each of the five continers, placed at different heights and angles, offers different planes, creating an harmony as one. Two of them are designed as standing galleries open to the residents. Going up to the Ocean Scope, you will find not only the beauty of
the structure but also the scenery of the lake and the sea.
The trail in Solchan Park located at the edge of the campus of Incheon University makes a perfect place to rest on the swinging bench while watching seagulls flying in from afar. If you want to enjoy the ocean view in a higher and more silent space than the trail, try going up the stairs to the second floor of the CAISSON24 building. At one corner of the terrace connected to the outside of an Italian restaurant on the second floor, there is a white chair on which you can take a picture with the sea in the background. While walking up the stairs, you will find more modern-style white chairs placed on the brown wood deck that create exotic scenery. At the highest point, you can enjoy an unobstructed view of the West Sea. From a different angle, you will see Pulsup Park and the campus of Incheon University. It is an attractive place with two different views: one a fine panorama of the downtown, and the other the beauty of nature. In the evening, the sunset makes the scenery more romantic.
Michuhol Park, built on a vast flatland, is a ten-minute walk from Exit 3 of the BIT (Bio Information Technology) Zone station. The vast lawn and the playing field are surrounded by natural scenery in beautiful harmony with Korea’s tradition. Some small islands are floating on the peaceful lake, around which there is a nice trail formed for walking. Next to the lake is a Korean-style building, Inhwaru. On its second floor, you can have a closer look at traditional Korea’s architectural styles, such as wooden pillars and dancheongt.
At night, the reflection of Inhwaru on the lake is spectacular. Within Michuhol Park, you can find the traditional beauty of Korea all over, and traditional cultures such as Andong Hahoe masks, jars, and Hwain-jung.
The statues of twelve Chinese zodiac animals encircle the central square, and some uncommon stone statues are
also exhibited.
