YEONSU-GU, AN EDUCATIONAL-WELFARE CITYWITH RESIDENTS AT ITS CORE
Open administrative projects in which all the residents are the heads of the district.
•Establishing the library-service infrastructure
•Opening Songdo Global Lifelong Learning Center
•Creating a city that ensures women’s safety
•Creating better environments for childbirth and childcare
•Continuously expanding national and public daycare centers
•Improving working conditions for nursery teachers in private and at-home daycare centers
•Promoting projects to support senior citizen centers
•Creating a safe village for patients with dementia to gather
“I think education and welfare are the key factors that constitute wellbeing environments for a city.
As such, I am so glad that Yeonsu-gu has finally taken the first step toward installing excellent educational infrastructure with the recent opening of Songdo Global Lifelong Learning Center. I look forward to experiencing high-quality lifelong education programs right here in my own community.
In addition, I can easily find a library within my neighborhood, as Yeonsu-gu operates many small libraries within its community service centers. In fact, I am planning to visit the new Hambak Biryu Library this weekend after hearing about the library’s open-reading facilities that offer a wide range of multilingual books reflecting
the characteristics of Hambak Village.
“I once saw an article in Yeonsu Hanmadang, Yeonsu-gu’s newsletter, regarding the project to provide subsidies for paternity leave in the city. I think the article was in the May issue… At the time, I happened to be receiving subsidies for my paternity leave, so I wanted others to know about this initiative. Parenting requires the efforts of both parents, and there’s no downplaying the significance of having local governments run projects like this to provide direct support for residents trying to care for their children.”
