The Songdo Fishing Village Society is the last union of fishermen remaining in the area.
The history of the Society has been revived through art.
In August 2016, when the license for limited fishing in the tidal flats in Songdo District 9 expired,
the 300 fishermen's livelihoods in this village faced a crisis.
The Society members are currently maintaining their union's legacy with the permission to fish at the tidal flats in front of Songdo 6 and 8 districts.
To illuminate and document the historical value of this organization, Cartoon Campus implements the "Distant but Close Neighbors in Meonwoogeum" project. This project will install more than 200 works of art based on vivid stories of real residents and tell the Songdo fishing village's narrative that all generations can relate to.
Another art project is "A Little History of Incheon: Do You Know the Songdo Fishing Village Society?" hosted by the Incheon Creative Art Association. This project publishes a book collection of photographs, drawings, and handwriting from the past that depict the Fishing Village Society. This book, filled with the fishermen's vivid life stories, will present rich nostalgia to other residents of Yeonsu-gu.
