Opening of 507 Cultural Bunker Life and Culture Center
An old and obscure space has been renovated. The dark underground walkway of Yeonsu
Overpass is reborn under the name of 507 Cultural Bunker, welcoming residents with various facilities
to enrich their cultural life. Let's take a peek at the 507 Cultural Bunker Life and Culture Center, which will
become busy again with many visitors.
Rebirth of an Old Space
The underground walkway of Yeonsu Overpass, once obsolete and exposed to safety accidents,
has transformed into the 507 Cultural Bunker Life and Culture Center (in short, 507 Cultural
Bunker) for residents. This space had been a useful walkway since its completion in 1994, but
the number of users gradually decreased with other mobility facilities growing nearby. This now
degraded space not only spoils the city's appearance but also poses a risk of safety accidents
at night, leading to little use by residents. Yeonsu-gu has been working on the Cultural Footstep
Project to recycle places left out and abandoned in the city. Following the Azalea Cultural Center
established in 2017, 507 Cultural Bunker has opened as the project's second achievement.
Construction took about one year and six months. Except for some passageways on the ground,
all spaces consist of various convenience facilities for residents, such as a performance club
practice room and exhibition space. This old, long-neglected location has returned as a living
cultural space that enriches our lives.
