Wando the sister city of Yeonsu-gu
The sky, sea, and mountains. Verdant vitality overflowing
Writer Kim Ji-suk
The island Wando, across a large bridge at land’s end, is one of Korea's six largest islands. Wando's islands include many sites imbued with the breath of history, such as Wando Island itself, where Bo-Go Jang built "Cheonghaejin," Gogum-do, with its remains of Admiral Sun-Shin Lee, and Bogil-do, where Seon-do Yun stayed.
This destination sits in an ocean uncontaminated, filled with fresh seafood. Wando's indigenous products include seaweed, kelp, laver, seaweed fusiforme, abalone, and a variety of fish rich enough to account for 34% of the total produce of Jeollanam-do and 8.3% of the country's.
Among them, abalone dominates the country's production with an 80% share and boasts of the best quality in the nation. Wando-gun operates an Internet site for agricultural and seafood products, where consumers can buy them directly from producers. These indigenous products are sold without a middleman, so customers can get the best local products of the best quality at the best price.

Cheongsando is a lush island 45 minutes by ship from Wando Port. Cheongsando has been designated Asia's first slow city. Its "slow path" is a place where visitors can slowly stroll and be fascinated by the beautiful landscape. The slow path consists of 11 courses. Every April in Cheongsando, when beautiful rape flowers and refreshingly green barley sweep the island, a "slow walking" festival is held, attracting tourists far and wide.
The Cheongsando Slow Walking Festival 2014 is held around Cheongsando between April 1st to April 30th, with the theme "slowness is happiness". This program awakens us to the value of slowness. In addition to the "Cheongsan Slow Walk", experiential, cultural, and art programs are scheduled, as well as events like the Cheongsando Photo Festival, the Slow market, and one where you walk like the main characters from the movie "Seopyeonje."
