Opening of Songdo Global Lifelong Learning Center

In June, the Songdo Global Lifelong Learning Center will open, heralding the cheerful beginning of lifelong education in Yeonsu-gu. The Center will realize lifelong learning, which allows everyone to receive education for life. It will serve as another base of lifelong education in Yeonsu-gu. Expectations are high for how the Songdo Global Lifelong Learning Center will shape the future of Yeonsu-gu.

 

 

Until the Opening of Songdo Global Lifelong Learning Center

Yeonsu-gu is a representative lifelong learning city of Korea and a member of the UNESCO Global Network for Learning Cities. 

Since it was designated as *the coordinator city of the Global Citizenship Education Cluster, Yeonsu-gu has prepared the opening of the ‘Songdo Global Lifelong Learning Center’1) to provide diverse global lifelong education programs for the local residents. Although the importance of lifelong education is being emphasized these days, the infrastructure was insufficient for the global standard of lifelong education in line with the global era. 

Therefore, Yeonsu-gu decided to establish its own global lifelong education system by making the best use of the world-class educational infrastructure of Incheon Global Campus (IGC). 

In November, 2019, Yeonsu-gu and the Incheon Global Campus concluded an agreement to promote lifelong education through various lifelong education programs by utilizing their excellent human, intellectual, and physical resources. 

Finally, opening in June 2020, the Songdo Global Lifelong Learning Center will provide the residents of Yeonsu-gu with more open and extensive opportunities for lifelong learning.

 

 

Future Imagined by the Songdo Global Lifelong Learning Center

The Songdo Global Lifelong Learning Center is characterized by three special features. The first is development and operation of specialized programs linked to the local resources. 

The Lifelong Learning Center will put the global-level educational infrastructure of the IGC to good use in developing specialized education programs, such as special lectures by IGC’s international professors. 

The second is provision of diverse and extensive lifelong courses that are flexibly adjusted to changes in
the contemporary times. 

Evening classes will be open to allow more residents to attend, and in consideration of today’s trends, lectures on the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the like will be provided in connection with foreign cultural centers. 

The last is its role as a global citizenship education center. The Center will operate global citizenship education programs to cultivate global citizenship as a main player of the global era. 

By fulfilling these three roles, the Lifelong Learning Center will offer valuable opportunities of lifelong learning for the residents of Yeonsu-gu and become a lifelong learning base of Yeonsu-gu.
