Residents of rapidly developing New Songdo City welcomed another addition of community facility when Songdo 3-dong Community Center opened in Songdo 3-dong. The new community center can facilitate various administrative functions in accordance with gradual increase of residents in the region and is committed to serving diverse needs of the residents.
Songdo 3-dong Community Center is serving residents from its temporary location at Suite A119 Songdo Techno Park IT Center, 172-1 Songdo-dong, Songdo Gwahang-no. Songdo area continues to see ongoing development as a flagship city of global business and excellent quality of living.
Songdo 1-dong has seen a continuing increase of population in line with the city’s overall development plan and completion of apartment construction, and the population surpassed 50,000 in May of 2014 prompting a division of administrative district and Songdo 1-dong was divided into Songdo 1-dong and Songdo 2-dong.
Officials at the Songdo 3-dong Community Center noted that “Songdo 1-dong will oversee districts 2, 4, and 10, while districts 5, 7, and 11 falls under the jurisdiction of Songdo 3-dong. With many buildings such as Global Campus Prugio Officetel and Green Square already completed and residents moving in,completion of more residential buildings such as Hoban Veritium, Campus Town Apartment, and Campus Town Officetel will mean an increase of Songdo 3-dong’s population from 17,000 now to over 30,000.”
Songdo 1-dong’s history goes back to 2006 when legislation was passed to rename Dongchung-dong to Songdo-dong. When Dongchun 2-dong was divided up and one part was merged into Songdo- dong, it was recognized as an administrative district. Songdo-dong was divided into Songdo 1-dong and Songdo 2-dong in 2012.
Since it opened at its temporary location on September 24, 2014, Songdo 3-dong Community Center is already serving an increase number of residents who visit the office. Increase of population moving into New Songdo City has resulted in establishment of 3 administrative districts in Songdo-dong, and the city is preparing itself to serve the diverse needs of residents.
After dividing Songdo 1-dong into Songdo 1-dong and Songdo 3-dong and begin preparation for construction of a new community center building, immediately opening a temporary office and begin offering its services was the first step taken by Yeonsu-gu office to accommodate more rapidly increasing population establishing residency in Songdo due to facilities such as Songdo Techno Park and Smart Valley.
Meanwhile, the construction of Songdo 3-dong Community Center is expected to be completed by the end of 2017, until which full range of community center services will be provided at the temporary location.
“Even though it is a temporary location, we are fully ready and equipped to provide the complete range of services and support expected of any other community center operating from its permanent location. Since services like residency notification, residency date confirmation, registration for birth and death, registration and change of personal seal can be handled only through the community center with the right jurisdiction, we are happy to assist our residents with these services and more,” said an official from the Songdo 3-dong Community Center.
