Yeonsu, Footprints of the Last 20 Years

Yeonsu-gu Office has made extensive efforts to serve residents since its temporary office building was built in Cheonghak-dong, Yeonsu-gu, in March 1995. In celebration of its 20th anniversary this year, let's track the meaningful footprints of Yeonsu-gu Office with residents.

Inauguration of Yeonsu-gu Office
On March 1, 1995, Yeonsu-gu was divided from Nam-gu in Incheon Metropolitan City. Yeonsu-gu designated five legislative “dong (neighborhoods)” Ongneyon-dong, Seonhak-dong, Yeonsu-dong, Cheonghak-dong and Dongchun-dong and eight administrative dongs Ongneyon-dong, Seonhak-dong, Yeonsu 1-dong, Yeonsu 2-dong, Cheonghak-dong, Dongchun 1-dong and Dongchun 2-dong. After Songdo-dong(International Business District) was set up in 2007, the number of administrative dongs increased to 11.

Incheon Subway Line No. 1 Opened
(from Munhak Stadium to Dongmak)
Since the opening of Incheon Subway Line No. 1 from Bakchon to Dongmak stations on October 6, 1999, Gyulhyeon, Gyeyang and International Business District station have been opened.

IFEZ Designation
On August 11, 2003, Songdo, Yeongjong and Cheongna received the IFEZ designation in a Korean first, and IFEZ was established on October 15 of the same year. IFEZ will be an international city covering 209.4km² with a projected population of 512,000 people. Construction began in 2003 and will finish by 2020 (stage 1 by 2008), at a cost of 21.4 trillion won.

Designation as lifelong learning city
In 2003, Yeonsu-gu was designated a lifelong learning city for the first time in Incheon and has since upgraded the quality of life for residents by establishing and running a lifelong learning center and a happy leaning support center (national project). The lifelong learning city is where people and the city can grow together with the driving force of competitiveness by seeking self-realization, upgrading quality of life and stimulating a learning society whenever, wherever and whoever.

U.N. GCF Secretariat Attraction
In October 2012, Songdo was selected to launch the GCF secretariat after an election with six candidates, including Korea and Germany, at Songdo Convensia. The Green Climate Fund (GCF), a new international agency, aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and fight climate change.

U-Safety Service System Customized for Yeonsu-gu
The customized U-Safety Service System allows GPS through smartphone application (Yeonsu-gu U-Safety Service) without the purchase of an extra cellphone. This has contributed to making the city saferby immediate action connected through the CCTV control system of Yeonsu-gu from function call and safety black box in emergency situations
