As the year is ending, a meditation space is required. People search for calm and a quiet place to reflect on the path they walked on and prepare for a trip to the unknown. The mountain Jangansan, with a beautiful winter view, and Nongae’s birthplace, where the history and culture of the patriotic heroine Nongae live on, are two places where visitors often go in wintertime for such reasons.

Global Human Resource Development through Int’l Exchange

The University of Utah was selected to participate in the Incheon Global Campus project from four American and European universities from the Korean government’s list of the world’s top 100 universities. The new campus is the fourth global university in Songdo. After the fall semester, Han, the president and original planner of the Asia campus, mentioned that he will continue his utmost efforts for global human resource development through a competitive and differentiated curriculum.

"The Asia campus provides not only educational satisfaction but a variety of campus lives," said Han, who earned a Ph.D. in biochemistry at Washington State University. He has worked in global human resource development through a number of projects including the Global Impact Program and Global Leadership Program, with funding from the U.S. government.

The Asia campus offers the three majors of communication, psychology and social welfare. Undergraduates must participate in the global citizenship educational licensing program in the first year to build international competitiveness. The Mentor-Mentee Program consisting of peers and faculty also greatly contributes to careers after graduation.

Expand throughout the World, Contribute to the World

President Han’s educational philosophy is based on humanitarianism, the founding and educational principle of Korea. "Humanitarianism makes perfect sense in this global age. It seeks to benefit all of humanity. Intelligence formed through proper education is he stepping stone for life with other people. Expanding throughout the world and contributing to the world is the future that the University of Utah has dreamed of," he said.

The operating principle of the advanced educational program is also based on humanitarianism. Combining Eastern and Western ulture makes the University of Utah extraordinarily distinct.

"I think the most international thing is the balanced harmony of Eastern and Western culture. I have no doubt that the University of Utah Asia campus will be competitive in all fields, including economy or culture, as an educational place for domestic and global human resources," said Han.

The University of Utah is a place of intelligence and cultural exchanges from East and West, and expected to develop human resources who will lead the 21st century in the age of limitless competition.
