National Foundation Day of Korea.

October 3, is  Korea’s National Foundation Day.

It is a national holiday and most offices, government organizations and offices, banks will be closed.

This holiday celebrates the formation of ancient Korea in 2333 BC.

Korean people believe that Gojoseon or ancient Korea was established by Dangun.

According to this legend, Dangun is a person sent down from the heavens to Baekdu Mountain (located in North Korea).

The story tells that Dangun was sent by the Gods in Heaven and created a City of God, which is now Korea.

Legend says, that Dangun ruled over Korea for over 1000 years before he became a God of the Mountains.

Although this holiday derived from this legend,

now National Foundation Day recognizes and celebrates everything Korea

from the Korean culture, to customs, foods, and achievements of Korea and the Korean people.

It is widely celebrated throughout Korea and on this day,

you will see many festivals, parades, celebrations, and events across the country.

Traditionally in the past, this holiday was celebrated according to the Lunar New Year,

however in recent times it has been designated to be celebrated on October 3.

Hope you enjoy National Foundation Day in Korea!
