Life Information

Malbok

In Korea, the three hottest days of summer are called boknal. Boknal, is divided into three different categories, chobok, which is at the beginning of summer, junbok, during the middle of summer, and malbok at the end of summer. Chobok is usually in July, around July 11-19th when the weather starts to get really hot. Jungbok starts about 10 days after Chobok, and Malbok starts about 10 days after Jungbok.

These days are called sambok, which means the three hottest days of summer.

On these particular days, Korean people feel that it is necessary to eat certain foods to keep healthy during the hotel. Foods high in protein are consumed on these days.

Samgyetang (Korean chicken soup) is one of the most popular foods to eat on tis day. On these days, you will notice that the Samgyetang restaurants are full of people and it is difficult to find a seat for lunch or dinner.

Other popular foods on this day are red bean porridge, watermelons and yellow melons.

Chobok of 2017 was July 12th followed by Jungbok in July 22nd. Malbok is today!

We hope you are able to eat one of these foods to nourish your body!
