Story of Songdo

Woninjae & Songdo Hanok Village in the City

Any scenery created with traditional Korean houses, hanoks, makes a great tourist attraction for many camera shots to cherish. The charms of the beautiful hanoks impress foreign tourists and leave lasting memories. Near the subway station in Yeonsu-gu,

there is a beautiful stretch of hanoks that communicates the harmony of tradition and modernity.

A Site of History Embedded with the Traditions of Incheon Lee Clan [‘Woninjae’ at the Woninjae Subway Station]

From Exit 1 of Woninjae Station, within a three-minute walk, you will see a hanok main gate and tombstones. Woninjae is the place to guard the tomb site of Lee Heo-gyeom, founder of the Incheon Lee clan, and hold memorial services. It is known

to have been established in the early 1800s and has been designated as the fifth Incheon

Cultural Property. Entering the hanok main gate, you can see five small buildings that were

used as a study and bedrooms. There is a terrace-stone below each floor for removing shoes before entering, windows covered with paper over the frames, and a floored main hall of the house, all of which will guide you through Korean past. Standing in the middle of the yard, you can feel the majestic and simple beauty of hanoks. The spacious yard is also the venue for the traditional wedding ceremony arranged by the Yeonsu Cultural Center. Walking along the left side of the gate leads to the Road of Pilgrimage, and there is also a pond in the yard fenced with stones.

Enjoy food culture and walk through the past and future [‘Songdo Hanok Village’ at the Central Park subway station]

Songdo Hanok Village is creating a new food culture. In a village that embodies the atmosphere of hanok, you can enjoy various foods and coffee, as well as a walk. While walking from

the Central Park Station to Hanok Village, you will see the unusual scenery of the harmony

created by the hanok roofs and contemporary high-rise buildings.
The Songdo Hanok Village was established to convey the beautiful Korean atmosphere in

downtown. You can truly feel the beauty of hanok from a coffee house in a hanok building

with traditional-style lights, to the tile-roofed restaurant embracing a garden of trees and

a pond. Another must-see attraction of Songdo Hanok is Gyeongwonjae Ambassador Hotel,

a hanok hotel located right next to the village. A lobby decorated with paintings in the theme of red plum blossoms and pine trees and guestrooms built in the architectural style of the Joseon Dynasty are special additions to the beauty of Korea.
