Announcement on Automatic Extension of Stay for Registered Aliens

Periods of stay for registered aliens (address reported) are automatically extended to April 30, 2020 as described below, to stem the spread of the virus, by minimizing unessential visits to Immigration Offices amid growing concerns over the community transmission of the virus.

 

In this regard, using e-Application services at the HiKorea website (www.hikorea.go.kr) for Extension of Stay and other civil affairs is highly recommended to reduce in-person visits to jurisdictional immigration offices until the current situation is stabilized.

1. Eligibility

Registered aliens whose period of stay is due to expire between February 24 and April 29, 2020, and

Who are legally staying in the Republic of Korea at the time of enforcement

(Yet, Non-Professional (E-9), Maritime Crew (E-10), and Those whose whereabouts are unknown are Excluded)

- Those whose period of stay expires on February 22(Sat.) or 23(Sun.) are included to benefit from the Automatic Extension of Stay Measure.

- Those who have already applied for Permission to Extend Period of Stay either by visit or online are excluded from the Measure. (Normal Period of Stay to be granted based on review criteria)

 

2. Extension of Stay under the Measure

Registered aliens (address reported), except for those listed below, whose period of stay expires before April 29, 2020 will have his/her period of stay collectively extended to be valid until April 30, 2020.

 

< Exceptions >

Persons falling under the following categories whose period of stay expires before April 30, 2020 will have his/her period of stay extended within the relevant maximum period as stipulated in the laws and regulations of the Republic of Korea.

Maximum period of stay for those with Hotel/Entertainment (E-6-2)

2 years from the date of first entry

Maximum period of stay for Family Members (F-1-5) of Marriage Migrants

4 years and 10 months from the date of first entry

Maximum period of stay for those with Work & Visit (H-2) and Family Members (F-1-11) 4 years and 10 months from the date of first entry

Those whose period of stay expires after May 1, 2020 pursuant to the laws and regulations will have his/her period of stay extended to be valid until April 30, 2020.
