August 15, is just not any holiday but a very special holiday in Korea.

 On this day in 1945,

Korea gained their independence and was liberated from Imperial Japanese colonial rule.

A temporary government was put in place and Korean people celebrated their found freedom.

This day is celebrated in both North and South Korea.

In Korea, this day is called Gwangbokjeol.

As we get closer to this day, you will see the Korean flag hanging

from buildings, street poles, and houses.

There are many government organized events on this day

as well as private events to celebrate the day.

Incheon will also be hosting an event on this day at the Incheon Culture & Arts Center.

If you are in Korea, it is a fun cultural experience.
