Grand Opening of Songdo Physical Education Center 

 

Songdo Physical Education Center will open in June and is expected to help turn

Yeonsu into a healthier and more vibrant community. 

In comparison to the rest of Incheon Metropolitan City,
Yeonsu-gu has been lacking in public sports facilities. 

The addition of Songdo Physical Education Center 

will not only compensate for this disparity 

but will also offer a variety of programs

uniquely available through the center. 

With ease of access ensured for all residents of Yeonsu-gu, 

the center’s programs are expected to 

inject new energy into the local community.

 

 

How Did the Idea for Songdo Physical Education Center Emerge?

Songdo Physical Education Center’s construction process 

required a lot of analysis and validation. 

Yeonsu-gu began the process with a thorough comparison 

on the status of public sports facilities across Incheon Metropolitan City, 

measuring them up against those of Yeonsu-gu. 

The quantified findings of this analysis clearly showed
an overall lack of sports education facilities in Yeonsu-gu. 

Based on these results, Yeonsu-gu immediately began 

investigating potential sites for construction of 

a new sports center within the district.
Of all legal administrative ‘dong’ sections in Yeongsu-gu, 

Songdodong is largest in population and area. 

In particular, Songdo 3-dong features commercial and 

residential multi-purpose buildings and apartment complexes. 

It also provides easy access to vehicles,
given its adjacency to Songdogukje-daero, Aam-daero, and Songdogwahak-ro.

 In addition to meeting the district’s established
standards for a candidate site to have elementary, middle, or high schools 

in the vicinity of the total territory, 

Yeonsu-gu finally settled on Songdo 3-dong 

for its ease of access for pedestrians.

Songdo Physical Education Center with Clear Goals

Songdo Physical Education Center will be operated 

to fill the need for public sports facilities in Yeonsu-gu 

and to provide opportunities for district residents to take part in sustainable sports facility activities and physical education. 

The center consists of a basement level 

and four floors above ground, 

and it is equipped with comprehensive sports facilities, 

such as a swimming pool, gym, spinning room, 

multi-purpose room, and table tennis. 

The indoor facilities were designed to introduce 

a variety of programs to reflect different user interests and levels. 

Such efforts are expected to increase 

the satisfaction of residents in their daily life activities. 

The center will also run diverse programs based on 

active exchanges with local schools and organizations.
As such, Songdo Physical Education Center has completed its preparations to
stand as a solid public operation established to resolve the lack of physical
education facilities in Yeonsu-gu, promote health for local residents, 

and increase overall satisfaction as a public sports facility. 

Furthermore, based on networking efforts with the surrounding community, 

this June, the center will finally begin its move toward rejuvenating 

the local economy and enhancing
the image of health and vitality for Yeonsu-gu, as a whole.
