YEONSU-GU IS INTRODUCED

History 

   

 

 

 

According to the birth myth of Baek-jae, one of the old nations in Korea, which was mentioned on the Dong-kuk-yeo-ji-seung-ram, the first name of Incheon was Michuhol which was named by Biryu, the elder brother of Onjo, the founder of Baekjae, who settled down here, and Incheon was the main target of Koguryo, Baekjae and Shila to scramble for in the era of the Three States.

 

It had many changes in the territory to belong to and in the 14th year of King Jin-heung of shila(AD553), it belonged to Hansan-ju which was a new state of Shila, and in the period of King Kyeong-deok, it was called So-seong as the city of Yuljin-kun.

 

In the 9th year of King Hyeon-jong of Goryeo(1018), it belonged to Soo-ju, and in the period of King Sukjong, it was raised to Kyeongwon-kun since it was home of Queen In-yae of Yi family and it was renamed as Ji-in-ju-sa because it was home of Queen Sun-deok of Yi family in the period of King In-jong. In the 2nd year of King Kong-yang(1390), it was elevated to Kyeongwon-bu, and in the first year of the Yi dynasty(1392). It was called In-ju, and it was named Incheon-kun in the 13th year of King Tae-jong, and in the 6th year of King Se-jo, it was promoted as a Incheon To-ho-bu since it was home of Queen So-heon's mother.

 

The Yeonsu-gu area was including Ongam-ri, Meokam-ri, Manghae-ri, Dongmak-ri, Chekjeon-ri, Hanjin-ri, Hambak-ri, Ya-dong and Ok-dong of Meonukem-myeon, Incheon To-ho-bu, and was included in Incheon-bu area was expanded, it was reincluded in Munhak-myeon of Pucheon-kun in 1914, and when the Incheon-bu and after it was under the Nam-gu in 1968, in accordance with the Article 4802 of Law on December 16, 1994, Ongnyeon, Seonhak, Yeonsu1, Yeonsu2, Cheonghak and Donchun-dong were divided and on March 1st of 1995, Yeonsu-gu opened its District Office which includes 5 legal villages(dongs) and 8 administrative villages(dongs).

 

On May 1st, 1996, Dongchun2-dong was divided into Dongchun2-dong and Cheongnyang-dong. On March 1st, 2003, Ongnyeon-dong was divided into Ongnyeon1-dong and Ongnyeon2-dong. On December 18st, 2003, the administrative name of Cheongnyang-dong was changed to Dongchun3-dong. On January 1st, 2007, Dongchun2-dong was divided into Dongchun2-dong and Songdo-dong. On January 1st, 2012, Songdo-dong was divided into Songdo1-dong and Songdo2-dong. In addition, Yeonsu Cheonghak Library was opened in July 27th, 2012.

May 10, 1977 Changed the name of the administrative dongs in accordance to Municipal Ordinance No. 1075 (Proclaimed on Apr. 18, 1977)
Namcheon and Seonhak-dong were changed to Seonhak-dong.
Yeonsu and Cheonghak-dong were changed to Yeonsu-dong.
 
Jul. 1, 1981 Promoted to a metropolitan city in accordance to Law No. 3424 (Proclaimed on Apr.13,1981)
 
Jan.1, 1988 Divided the district from Nam-gu to Namdong-gu in accordance to Presidential Decree No. 12376 (Dec.31,1987)
Namcheon-dong that was the precinct of Seonhak-dong was introduced to Namdong-gu.
 
Jul. 1, 1994 Divided 1 administrative dong in accordance to Nam-gu Ordinance No. 323 (Proclaimed on Jul.1,1994)
Yeonsu-dong → Yeonsu 1-dong , Yeonsu 2-dong, and Cheonghak-dong 
 
Mar. 1, 1995 Divided Yeonsu-gu from Nam-gu in accordance to Law No. 4802 (Dec. 16, 1994)
Divided 2 administrative dongs in accordance to Nam-gu Ordinance No. 343 (Proclaimed on Mar. 1, 1995)
Yeonsu 1-dong → Yeonsu 1-dong, Yeonsu 3-dong
Dongchun-dong → Dongchun 1-dong , Dongchun 2-dong 
 
Jan. 1, 1996 Divided 1 administrative dong in accordance to Gu Ordinance No. 107
Dongchun 2-dong → Dongchun 2-dong, Cheongnyang-dong
 
Mar. 1, 2003 Divided 1 administrative dong in accordance to Gu Ordinance No. 384
Ongnyeon-dong → Ongnyeon 1-dong, Ongnyeon 2-dong 
 
Dec. 18, 2003 Divided 1 administrative dong in accordance to Gu Ordinance No. 419
Cheongnyang-dong → Dongchun 3-dong
