The winter Pyeongchang Olympics is right around the corner! The opening ceremony will be on February 9 and run through February 25!

Pyeongchang is a city in the Gangwon province of South Korea. It is located about 180 km east of Seoul. It is known for its beautiful ski resorts in the winter and golf resorts in during the spring, summer, and fall.

Pyeongchang was chosen to host the 2018 Winter Olympics by the IOC in July of 2011. Since then, Korea has been busily preparing for the Winter Olympics. Since the Olympics were held in Korea in 1988, this is the first time since then the Olympics have come back to Korea.

 

The slogan for the 2018 Winter Olympics is Passion.Connected. This refers to a world in which everyone is connected with shared passion for the winter sports.

 

 

For the sports categories, athletes will compete in a total of 102 events in 15 sport disciplines. These winter games will host 6 new events which will include Snowboard Big Air, Speed Skating Mass Start, and Curling Mixed Doubles. It will be a stage for the greatest number of women’s and mixed events in the history of the games.
