Winter Foods!
The cold is here, the snow has come, the holidays are near, what does this mean in Korea? It also means all the winter foods Korean people love are here to enjoy for the next few months! Here are some must try Korean winter foods!
Kimjang Kimchi
In a previous post we had explained a little about what kimjang kimchi is and how it was made. If you are lucky to be in Korea for the winter, this is definitely a treat! Regular kimchi is good too, but this freshly made kimjang kimchee is the best! Make sure you try this!
Bungeoppang (Boong-uh- bbang or Fish Bread)
With winter, come bungeoppang, literally translated as fish bread. It is not made out of fish but in the shape of a fish filled with red bean paste! You can normally find this on the street, as it is a popular street food. As you walk in the cold, make sure to pick up and try one of the warm bungeoppangs!
Roasted Chestnuts
You will find this all through out Korea! Winter is the season of chestnuts and you will find people roasting the nuts on the street as well as in the markets. It is a great snack!
Jiinbang (Steamed Bread)
This is another winter favorite! It is a steamed white bread usually filled with red bean paste. These days there are other fillings as well. This is sure to warm you up!
We hope you have a chance to enjoy some of these foods this winter!
