Yeonsu-gu Exchanges Garbage Paper Packs for Toilet Paper
To promote the recycling of resources and separated garbage collection, Yeonsu-gu held an event
exchanging garbage paper packs for toilet paper.
The types of paper packs that could be exchanged at the event were paper packs for beverages,
such as milk cartons and juice packs. Paper cups were not eligible for exchange. As part of the
exchange, the paper packs were emptied, rinsed with water and spread open to be dried. They were
then brought to be exchanged for toilet paper.
1 kg of paper packs was exchanged for one roll of toilet paper. 1 kg of paper packs is equivalent to
thirty 1,000㎖-cartons, fifty 500㎖-cartons and eighty 200㎖-cartons.
The exchange event took place at the ‘Yeonsu-gu Thrifty Sharing Market’ in Symbol Plaza in front
of the gu office.

‘2013 SMCOP’)” had a successful opening ceremony at Songdo Convensia.
More than 1,000 people came to the opening ceremony, including the 300 participants in the
conference (middle/high school and college students), 300 observers, VIPs and 400 general

After the opening ceremony, student participants from all around the world played the role of their
country’s representative in conducting a sectional conference. The conference was divided into four
sections: the SBSTA (Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice), the SBI (Subsidiary
Body for Implementation), the TEC (Technology Executive Committee) and the GCF TF (Task Force).
The resolutions for each sectional conference were written and presented at the closing conference.
The 2013 SMCOP was held for three days, with the closing conference and ceremony being held
on the 4th.
The student participants from all around the world who participated in the 2013 SMCOP had a

They also enjoyed the opportunity to draw the interest of the GCF and working together with the fund
on climate change.
On November 8th, Yeonsu-gu held the ‘2013 Tree Growing Event’ near Bongjaesan Mountain. About
140 people participated in the event, including public workers and residents.
The aim of the event was to construct a good growing environment for trees and make the forest, as
well as Yeonsu-gu, greener during November.
The area where the tree growing event took place (San 53-31, Dongchun-dong) lost about 3.0ha
of forest due to a fire on April 2011. A restoration forest was made in 2012, but to fully restore the
forest, continuous management is necessary.
The participants in the event checked the growing conditions of about 1,000 pine trees around
the area, giving them fertilizer and helping the trees stand up properly. They also cleaned the area
around the forest and conducted an anti-forest fire campaign.
