GETTING TOGETHER IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Despite the excellent

baking techniques on display,

more and more

‘neighborhood bakeries’

have been closing up shop

of late due to dwindling

competitiveness against

large-sized franchise brands.

In reaction to this,

Yeonsugu began ramping up

efforts to preserve its bakeries

since July 2017.

Four neighborhood bakeries

located in Yeonsu-gu’s

old city center have been

selected to form a communal brand

named ‘BBANG AN AE.’

They have been operating

step-by-step programs

to sustain small bakeries

in the neighborhood,

including assistance

with new product development,

kitchen improvement projects,

and marketing training.

As a first measure,

various projects were launched

with the aim of solidifying

the brand’s internal foundation.

To reinforce the technological

power of BBANG AN AE’s

participant bakeries,

consultations were held

with Korea’s Baking Master

No. 7, Ahn Chang Hyun,

who provided on-site solutions

and suggestions

for new product development

for each bakery.

To enhance the brand’s image,

students of Department

of Visual Design,

College of Fine Art & Design,

Incheon Catholic University

designed logos,

came up with brand names,

and created packaging and

- mascots for each bakery.

Other promotional

activities have included

the Food Culture Festival

held under the title

‘Yeonsu Food Delight

Pang Pang Festival,’

along with improvements

for outdated kitchen facilities,

marketing through

promotional booths at city-

and district-level events,

and skills and bread donations.

Yeonsugu will continue

to foster various programs

to spread the BBANG AN AE brand

among citizens of the district.
