A visit to Incheon Yeonsu-gu’s opening ceremony of its cultural house ART PLUG

I got off Dongchun station to attend the opening ceremony of Yeonsu-gu’s cultural house “ART PLUG” and was able to see opening ceremony posters for the cultural house at the station.

I was easily able to spot ART PLUG through looking around at Dongchun station.

It was located right next to the Yeonsu Emart.

“Art Plug” is the name of the first cultural space that adheres closely to life and is dedicated to local residents in Incheon Yeonsu-gu.

It was named “Art Plug” because the shape of the cultural house resembles a plug.

Just as a plug supplies power, the name of Yeonsu-gu’s cultural house signifies that it seeks to supply the local residences with culture and art.

The cultural house hopes to be more than a cultural space where you create, learn and enjoy independently. Rather, it hopes to be a home for everyone where all Yeonsu-gu residents can realize a rich and refreshing lifestyle.

I arrived at the cultural house around 1:50pm and found that a samulnori performance was in progression.

Samulnori is music played on the four basic Korean percussion instruments : the ggoenggwari (a small gong), the jing (a large gong), the janggo (an hourglass drum), and the buk (a barrel drum).

The exciting samulnori charged the atmosphere of the opening ceremony at Yeonsu-gu’s cultural house!

At 2pm, the cultural house opening ceremony began.

The ceremony started with a ribbon cutting ceremony and an en unveiling in front of the cultural house.

I was greeted by three sibling spotted seals inside the cultural house, the mascot of the Incheon Asian Games.

I then looked around the cultural house.

Neatly and in every corner, there were things that were necessary for Yeonsu-gu residents to enjoy a cultural life.

Many people that had attended the opening ceremony of the cultural house were also carefully examining the cultural house.

Everyone seemed to be having a good time while looking around the cultural house.

Is it not wonderful that such a cultural space was formed in Yeonsu-gu?

The official ceremony then began in the small theater.

The opening of the official ceremony was followed by the national pledge of allegiance, an introduction of visitors, a report on the proceedings, a congratulatory message, and words of encouragement.

This was followed by a unit event of a celebratory performance.

The celebratory performance was an exciting samulnori performance and a concert by “Turtle,” composed of working professional members.

The opening ceremony was held in the small theater of the cultural house, which is 354 in size and seats 109 people for practice, concerts, events and various other purposes.

The cultural house “ART PLUG” also has a children’s art gallery.

The children’s art gallery at ART PLUG is Incheon’s first children’s art gallery and is an area for children to experience and exhibit art.

It has various Korean sweets, such hangwa, hangwaja, yangang, and buggumi.

There was lotus leaf tea and hangwa prepared for those who had attended the opening ceremony of Yeonsu-gu’s cultural house ART PLUG.

Wow! It even has a beautiful terrace!?

In addition to the children’s art gallery, there is also a performance practice room and a carpentry workshop.

The carpentry workshop carries professional woodworking tools.

Yeonsu-gu’s cultural house has several key facilities:

Observation facilities: children’s art gallery, small theater

General facilities: performance practice room, music practice room, photo studio

Educational facilities: education room, carpentry workshop

Etc…In addition to the standard cultural facilities, there are spaces that can be customized to meet the needs of the local residents.

Currently at Yeonsu-gu’s cultural house, there is an art experience exhibition for children, art discovery, until Aprill 4th in celebration of the opening ceremony of Yeonsu-gu’s cultural house.

Regular attendance is available during the weekday and weekend from 1-2pm. A shadow performance will be held in the small theater next to the children’s art gallery every Tuesday and Thursday at 2pm and 3pm from March 11 to April 3.

Please note that Yeonsu-gu’s cultural house will be closed every Monday.
