Has everyone been participating in community service? Community service is the greatest contributor to the promotion of social welfare. Participating in community service through civil society results in a true advancement of social welfare. 

  

Not only that, community service helps individuals discover their societal role and leads to self-realization and growth as well as experiencing their potential capabilities while volunteering among others.

  

Additionally, community service is very important in recovering humanity, improving quality of life, and achieving world peace.

  

Therefore, the Republic of Korea has been advocating on behalf of community service volunteers and spreading a community service centered culture(확인) by establishing excellent community service organizations and awarding recognition on Community Service Day on December 5th.

 

Yeonsu-gu has promoted various policies in order to invigorate community volunteer work while focusing on the Yeonsu-gu Volunteer Center, which was established in 1998.

 

As of today, nearing the end of November, there are approximately 70,700 registered community service volunteers and constitute 1 out of 4 residents in Yeonsu-gu.

 

Furthermore, Yeonsu-gu has worked through the Yeonsu-gu Volunteer Center’s ties to promote the residents’ welfare and established volunteer centers in each dong, the center of the residents’ daily living area, to increase accessibility to community service.

  

In particular, the sign language volunteer group, skills sharing knowledge volunteer group, settlement of North Korean refugees volunteer group, foreign college students volunteer group, among other youth, local society, and corporate groups received high reviews in their efforts to recruit volunteers and in their abilities to operate each respective group.


In the private sector, Yeonsu-gu Volunteer Group’s President Lee Eun-hwan was recognized for his community service dedication to local society and was awarded a commendation from the Minister of the Safety Administration.
