Exchange of Foreign Driver’s License

Although Korea’s public transportation is affordable and convenient, you may want to consider getting a Korean drivers license for convenience purposes. If you already have a driver’s license from your origin country, it is not that difficult to obtain a Korean license.

 

If you have a valid driver’s license from your country, you can exchange it for a Korean driver’s license. This means literally they take away your original driver’s license and they give you a Korean driver’s license. There are some forms that you need to fill out and you will need to take a couple of photos with you. For more information please see below.

 

1. Documents

Here are some documents you need to prepare to exchange your foreign driver’s license for a Korean one.

-Original driver’s license

-Valid passport

-Alien Registration Card

-3 colored photo headshots (3.5cm x 4.5cm)

-Documented validation of your original driver’s license from the issuing country or state.

* Each country has different process for an apostille.  Please refer to your country or state’s office to deal with this.

-12,500won if your country is on the list of recognized nation or 20,000won if it is not.

 

2. Aptitude Test

The second step is an aptitude test which is a physical and a written test. However if your country is on the list of the recognized nations which is same as upper picture, you are able to skip the written test.

3. Receive your Korean driver’s license
