It’s already May!
In Korea, May is considered a family month with several holidays! The holiday that is celebrated by families the most in May is Children’s Day!
Children’s day was actually on March 1 in 1919 in commemoration of the Independence Movement to motivate patriotism amongst children. In 1923, it was changed to May 1..
In 1927, it changed as the first Sunday of May. After World War 2, in 1945, it is set as May 5th .
Children’s day was officially set as May 5 th as Children’s welfare law announced in 1961 and set as national holiday in 1975.
It is a day for children to be loved and celebrated, making them feel special. Also, it is a day to encourage children that any thing is possible and instill self esteem and motivation .
This day is celebrated all around Korea, and you will be able to see many different events for children to enjoy! If you have children, take them out this Friday, and make it special for them! There will even be events at the Munhak Stadium on May 5 th from 11AM to 4PM.
