[Yeonsu News] Yeonsu to give an honorary road name of ‘UNESCO Lifelong Learning Road’

To commemorate the 5th International Conference on Learning Cities (hereinafter ICLC), which will be held on the 27th, Yeonsu will give a part of the road in front of Songdo Convensia an honorary road name of ‘UNESCO Lifelong Learning Road.’

An honorary road name is a symbolic road name given for the purpose of international exchange, business attraction, or to commemorate a person with high social commitment. Once a road name is assigned, it can be used for 5 years and can be extended.

The section given a new name as a legacy of the ICLC event held this year is a part of the current Central Road, which is stretches 2.6km from Songdo Sunrise Park to Central Park.

The district decided on the name ‘UNESCO Lifelong Learning Road’ with the symbolic meaning of ICLC after deliberation by the Road Name and Address Committee along with the process of collecting residents’ opinions on road sections and road names last month.

The name contains the symbolism and will of Yeonsu, a future international education city designated as Incheon’s first lifelong learning city and special education internationalization zone, and hosting the global village’s representative lifelong learning festival hosted by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL).

In addition to the recent announcement of the grant of the honorary road name, the district plans to publicize it widely through the installation of road signs with the name of the road in the future.

Furthermore, in order to increase the value of the honorary road name, the district plans to promote the installation of a monument for the honorary road name and actively promote the honorary road name through various media such as the Yeonsu office website and social media.
