[Yeonsu News] ‘Preserve the Earth Environment’…Four Day Event for Miminized Use of Paper Documents and Disposables

Yeonsu-gu had a final site inspection for the Fifth UNESCO International Conference on Learning Cities. which will be held at Songdo Convensia for three days from the 27th. The inspection included the ‘Paperless’ international meeting that reflects the wishes of the Learning Cities to be more considerate of the earth environment.

Yeonsu-gu finished the final rehearsal with the inspection on food safety, which carried out pre-sanitary inspection and test eating. The test eating team and the food poisoning prevention team will be in place during the event to ensure the safety of food and drinks that will be served to the event participants.

The use of a tumbler will also be recommended via the event challenge to minimize the use of plastic containers and paper cups during the event. All attendants are required to follow the quarantine rules and take the simple COVID-19 test by using a self-diagnosys kit prior to entering the event venue.

Yeonsu-gu will hold this international meeting as a paperless meeting by substituting paper documents with electronic ones, putting the preservaion of the earth environment into direct action to create an untact setting for meetings, which has been normalized by the COVID-19, and adhere to the spirit of the UNESCO and the sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Accordingly, the event will entice the substitution of most meeting materials with electronic documents during the event by creating a setting to make the guidebook accessible for everyone with QR code and allowing to download the meeting materials from the gallery work in an electronic file format.

Yeonsu-gu intends to attempt several technologies for electronic documents available and plans to have this international meeting held fruitfully with no papers, taking one step ahead to put the era of new normal into action.

At the same time, this three-day event will recommend the use of tumbler, mug cup, ecobag, instead of disposables and plastic cups, with the attendants joining the ‘ICLC-5 Be Brave Challenge’ to reduce the use of disposables in the event venue.

Also, 72 hospitality businesses in the event venue and the designated hotels received the pre-sanitary inspection, focused on basic food safety rules such as the criteria for sanitary handling and personal hygiene management, with the food and beverage workers trained extensively for food hygiene.

The food and beverage eating test team will be in place during the event to inspect food materials, store them sanitarily, and conduct eating tests (sensory test) for final prepared food, and safely manage the preserved foods for all kinds, which will be prepared and served on the site.

“This meeting will break away from the existing paper document-focused practices and, intead, use electronic documents, which is at the center of the era of the fourth industrial revolution and the era of intelligent information,” said a Yeonsu-gu official, adding, “I look forward to having full participation from all domestic and foreign attendants.”
