Yeonsu-gu Ssireum (Korean wrestling) player, Kim Bo-gyeong (Halla class, under 105kg) won the Taurus Trophy by beating Lee Guk-hee (Jeungpyeong-gun) by 3-0 in the Halla class final game of the 2021 Pyeongchang Peace Ssireum Championship, held in the Pyeongchang Trout Experience Center from the 20th.
This is the 7th personal championship title for Kim Bo-gyeong, who became the oldest champion, age 38, throned to the title. The Yeonsu-gu Ssireum team also won a third place for the group match in the 2021 Pyeongchang Ssireum Championship, proving their prowess as a prestigious Ssireum team in Incheon.
Kim Bo-gyeong has been quite successful as he won the back-to-back Halla class championship in the 2020 Ssireum 3rd Round Pyeongchang Peace Ssireum Championship last year.
Kim’s winning is the second consecutive championship title for the Yeonsu-gu Ssireum team, preceded by Kim Chan-young (Baekdu class, under 140kg) who won the team’s first Cheonha class championship in the 2021 Cheonha Ssireum Festival, held on Nov. 2, in 25 years after the team establishment.
“I would like to congratulate the Yeonsu-gu Ssireum team for their excellent achievement and also appreciate the players who won the back-to-back championship under the challenging training environment to give hopes to the COVID-19 weary community members,” said an official, adding, “I hope they take pride in playing for the only professional Ssrieum team in Incheon and do their best to continue excellent performances next year.”
