Yeonsu-gu held the opening ceremony event for the ‘Hambakmaru,’ a village-shared space on the Hambak Village Senior Citizen Center 2F in Yeonsu 1-dong on the 29th.
‘Hambakmaru,’ meaning ‘Hambak Village’s floor,’ was built as the 2020 small regeneration project sponsored by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport with the cooperation of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, signifying that this space offers a comfortable resting place for the village residents and a space for open communication that helps the residents and foreigners understand the culture of each other and engage in cultural exchanges.
This project started with the public and private cooperation from the Hambak Village Senior Citizen Center, Yeonsu 1-Dong Community Center, Village Autonomy Division, and Village Community Support Center, as the community members came to the consensus that they need to build the autonomy foundation to address the ongoing conflicts from cultural differences on their own with the ratio of the foreigners nearing 40% in Hambak Village.
A temporary operation committee was formed with the community public invitation for the seven sessions of the community space operation workshop, ‘Our Engagement in Space Operation, From Head to Toe’ and a full operation will start from next January after concluding the test operation this December.
“I strongly believe that the creation of Hambakmaru provided an opportunity for the private and public to experience the cooperation process for achieving one goal, which helped all of us to grow ourselves,” expressed an official, adding, “We will study and plan for building a community space that is specifically adequate for Yeonsu-gu.”
