Yearly increase in use of bicycle repair center

Yeonsu-gu’s bicycle repair center operations

bring positive response from local residents

There are various problems that arise from traffic congestion during rush hour. When there are an excessive number of vehicles on the road, there is an increase in numerous negative effects, such as a decrease in road traffic efficiency, traffic congestion, and air pollution. Actually! The rapid rise of traffic congestion costs is reflected in diverse societal problems, including a lack of parking space and noise pollution.

Also, you cannot address traffic problems without mentioning gas prices! As gas prices have soared, energy efficiency is becoming a national problem. This is especially a serious problem for our country as it relies solely on imports for gas.

Therefore! People have become increasingly interested in the bicycle, an environmentally friendly replacement for the automobile. Bicycles have no problems with parking, are great for improving health, do not require gas, and do not contribute to air pollution.

In order to encourage many people to use the bicycle, Yeonsu-gu is operating a bicycle repair center.

According to Yeonsu-gu’s analysis results, the use of the repair center has continued to grow every year from 1,883 times in 2011 to 2,877 times in 2012 to 3,945 times in 2013.

The district has established 2 repair centers for the convenience of the residents: one center is permanently located in the district office Sangjing Plaza and the other center rotates according to schedule around each dong community center.

The repair center offers help with flat tires, Dunlop valves, oil applications, breaks, gears, and chains for free and also supplies parts at wholesale prices. The repair center seeks to assist residents by saving time as well as money concerning their bicycle use.

In particular, the repair centers have established ties with local businesses to collect discarded bicycles in public areas and near apartments to donate to residents in need. Thus, by providing more local jobs and promoting environmentally friendly recycling of bicycles, they have been able to kill two birds with one stone.

A related official has stated, “The district will try its hardest to provide high quality service to meet the local residents’ favorable response to the repair centers that have been established due to the growth in use of bicycles.”

The district plans on operating the repair centers from March to October and plans to promote a policy of sending out repair employees to schools, social welfare organizations, and other institutions in the district when they request bicycle repairs.
