Public Transportation and Transportation Cards in Korea

Compared to other countries, Korea has a convenient and high tech public transportation system tat makes it easy for all those that use it. There is a transportation card that you can use for both the bus and subway which will come in quite handy when using public transportation.

 

■ How to buy and charge a transportation card

You can buy a transportation card at convenience stores or at all subway stations. Each card costs about 3,000 won. You are also able to load your card with money at both of these places.

 

■ How to transfer

One of Korea’s best features is the transit system. If you transfer within a certain time, you'll be able to take a both the bus and subway at very little cost to transfer. Since it only costs about 200 won on average per transfer, or no charge at all, you can use multiple public transport services at once for small sum.

 

■ Korea’s Subway, the best in the world

Korea’s subway is already considered one of the best in the world. It has clean, large and comfortable. All the lines are connected throughout the capital, which makes it very easy to get from one place to another. The subway is on time and there are frequent stops, so once you get of the subway you don’t have to travel far to get to your destination.

 

This card can be used on subways and the bus but can also be used on taxis, and other public transportations take the card. Some convenience stores will also allow you to use the card there as well.  If you are traveling through Korea, consider public transportation and don’t forget to pick up a card!
