September 13 this year,
is Chuseok in Korea.
This is one of the most
celebrated holidays in Korea,
a time for families to get together
and spend several days together.
In the past,
this day was a day that
Korean people paid respects
to the gods for a great harvest.
Below are some Chuseok traditions
that Korean people follow
during this holiday.
Visiting Family
As many people live scattered
throughout Korea, during Chuseok,
many people travel back to
their hometowns.
Typically the entire family,
extended family gets together
so home is usually considered
where the most senior
family member lives.
The family will gather here
to spend time together,
enjoy foods, and have fun!
Visiting of Graves
During Chuseok,
many people will visit
the graves of their ancestors.
They pay their respects
by taking care of the grave,
cleaning around it,
setting up a ceremonial table
to pay their respects.
Wish not for more or less,
just always be like Chuseok.
There is a Korean saying that says,
wish not for more or less,
just always be like Chuseok.
This is a happy time,
when the entire family gets together
and eats great food, plays games,
and bonds.
We hope that you are able to
experience a little of
our Chuseok culture this year!
